Growing up, I have always been tech savvy. In high school, I took an engineering class my freshman year that used AutoCAD, which is a computer-aided design software to create drafts of 2D/3D models. I took a graphic design class for two years that taught me how to use Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. that allowed me to create many different logos or cartoon designs. As a hobby throughout my high school life, I also developed and produced rap music and had to use software, such as FL Studio, and hardware, such as a microphone and keyboard, which allowed me to express my creative musicial side. To help market my music, I had to learn about algorithms that Instagram and Twitter used to promote my music. I also wanted to create some visuals for my music, so I taught myself Premiere Pro and dove a little into After Effects.
When I graduated and started my college journey, I was not too sure what I wanted to study. I dabbled in a few classes until I took Kinesiology, which sparked my interests in the human body. I soon became a Health Science major with a focus on Physical Therapy. My junior year I felt I lacked some stimulus from my tech side or creative aspect of myself. I talked to a few computer science majors that were on my tennis team about coding and how to get started. It was always an area that I was curious about, but I did not know how to get started. I soon started watching videos and following along and then one day I created my own website application. I loved being able to express my creative side and analytical side to find solutions on how I would create what is in my head onto the computer. I had this same feeling with music, but lacked the analytical/ problem solving aspect of it.
I have had quite a journey on how I got into computer programming, but I hope you enjoyed it! I am hungry to keep learning and I am glad to have found a passion in coding. Scroll down below to find out more about my skills and to see some of the projects that I have made along the way!
Provide front-end website development using WordPress and other editing software.
Coded ticketing system using MongoDB, ExpressJS, ReactJS, and NodeJS stack.
Update and maintain employee list and facility map.
Collaborate with students to complete homework assignments, identify lagging skills and correct weaknesses.
Help students prepare for tests and exams by providing guidance, motivation and encouragement.
Support students with helpful study habits and exam strategies.
Interact with college and prospective students and parents during tours and student visit days, answering questions and providing insight.
Smooth registration processes, offer technical support and organize paperwork by using Salesforce.
File documents and answer telephone calls.
This degree taught me a ton about the human body, but it also taught me how to handle the pressure from taking so many tough classes and how to persevere through it!
First programming language that I learned so it was used to create some of my first websites, 'DebateTexas' website, and this portfolio website.
I used this predominantly in this portfolio website and 'DebateTexas' business website.
I have not coded many projects with just JavaScript, but I have incorporated it throughout my time coding.
Used this for the database portion of 'Blue Bug' to hold all the stored information of the users.
This was used in 'Blue Bug' as a framework for Node.js.
Created my first project 'Blue Bug' with this, which is a ticketing system and can perform all the CRUD functions.
I used this to create a server for my 'Blue Bug' project to run on.
I have used this ever since I started coding and loved how easy it was to pick up and learn!
This skill is fairly new to me, but I still feel comfortable creating wireframes and bringing them to life using Figma!
Started the CS50 course Harvard offers to learn the fundamentals of coding and I created a couple projects using this language.
I am comfortable using these to create graphic design images or logos to use on my websites. These are what I learned throughout my time in the graphic design class.
This includes communicating with other people, working well within a team, thinking quick on my feet to adapt to any unprecedented situation, and stepping up as a leader to help others thrive.
